Laundry redefined

I have always hated doing laundry. I've envied those women who find such fulfillment in washing, drying, folding, and putting away laundry. I have tried to like it with no success.....but within the last week my attitude has changed.

Today I am catching up on my laundry with such a different attitude. Last week my Bible study group was talking about how we can continue to "glorify God in the mundane things we do" (example: household chores). There were 2 things that changed my heart......

1. When I have piles of laundry to do, I can thank Jesus for healthy children that are in OUR HOME instead of making their home in a hospital room.

2. Everytime I bring dirty laundry to the washing machine, it's symbolic of how we bring our dirty lives to Jesus to be cleaned. What an amazing thing to be reminded of EVERYTIME I do laundry. I might even start doing some everyday. What a concept!

Ahhh...alas...a women after my own heart. I have never been great at laundry. My laundry is downstairs in it's own big room...and our closets are all small. So when my husband & I started dating, I did all I could do to steer him away from the mountain...ahem..I mean laundry room in the dungeon. Unfortunately the time came when I had no choice. When we became engaged the first thing he did was turn our laundry room into one big closet. it now looks like a department store with racks all the way around the wall. Anyhoo...the laundry has been an ongoing battle for the last 5-1/2 years. I am finally getting to the breaking point where I think I have it down and "might" be able to stay on top of it. It does feel really good when there is only a load or two down there at a time.

I don't think I'll ever be able to view my dirty laundry the same way again! Thanks for sharing! Glad to meet you!

Hi Karlynn!
Visiting from Shoulders....congrats on being the first one featured! :)

I can totally relate to the whole laundry thing--I'm in charge of the laundry at my house, and with 8 people (including 3 little boys), it's a HUGE task! You're right though, sometimes all we need is a new perspective.

I've found that if I put in some earphones and listen to music while I work, that also makes it easier. Just a thought that you might try out. :)

Hope you have a great day!

Karlynn,
I'm visiting from Shoulders as well. I hope everything is going well with the new job. As a new mom myself, I can't imagine being in your situation. A few weeks ago, I suggested to my husband that I get a job to help with our finances, and even suggesting it broke my heart. Thankfully, it doesn't look like I'll have to at this point, and I'm grateful for that. I have found myself today thinking of you as I've been home with my baby and praying that God will bless you and provide for your family in a way that will allow you to be home again soon!

Love and prayers,
Alexis

Karlynn - be encouraged today!
"Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
who trains my hands for war,
my fingers for battle.
He is my loving God and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me."
Psalm 144:1-2
Here's hoping you like surprises. Since you are in the blog frog stuff I thought of you when I read about SHoulders. Take care!

Wow! Great concept! I really appreciate you sharing that. I hate laundry too so I can totally relate to this. And hearing about Stellan in the hospital again definitely makes me thankful that mine are at home healthy and safe.

Blessing to you!

Ellen

Visiting from Shoulders, I don't so much mind DOING the laundry but I hate folding it! This newest house of ours has the laundry in the basement again. My last few houses have have the laundry room off the kithen on the main floor. At least my older kids do their own laundry, so I am only doing laundry for 4 people and then everyones shower towels! Keep the faith!
